Benefits of Electronic Locks
In more recent years, electronic front door locks have become increasingly popular. Having a “keyless entry” is a modern upgrade that many homeowners are considering adding. There are many advantages to adding an electronic lock as opposed to a traditional, keyed entry. Some of them have programmable security features, automatic unlocking and locking, and some even have scheduling options. While some prefer a traditional lock, the security and ease of use electronic locks bring make them a great option for your home.
Access Control
Access control is one of the main reasons that people consider switching to an electronic lock as opposed to a traditional mechanical lock. Gone are the days of getting locked out of your home or business! You can access your home with the simple punch of a code, or control your lock from anywhere using your cell phone. With some electronic locks, you can give each person their own unique code, allowing parents to see when their children arrive home, or be certain that they always have access.
If you’ve ever gone out of town and had to find an extra key to give someone watching your pet, you know that it can be a pain. Some systems even allow you to generate personalized pins for guests or pet sitters that you can disable at any time. Having an electronic lock gets rid of the need to have an extra key made or to leave one under a front doormat.
Alarms and Alerts
Perhaps one of the biggest advantages of electronic locks is that they can send you alerts and alarms. If your home doesn’t have a security system, there’s no way for you to know if there’s someone in your home or if someone has been inside other than after the fact. Most electronic locks can alert you as soon as the door is opened if you have that setting on. In addition, they are usually capable of remote access, meaning you could theoretically lock your door from any location.
Our Recommendations
While there are many great options for electronic locks, there are a few models I find the most effective at A Carolina Locksmith. For residential homes, I highly recommend the new Schlage Encode Deadbolt. It is a Grade 1 lock, and grade 1 locks are considered the best you can get for residential or even commercial settings. While the Schlage Encode Deadbolt is also a great option for commercial settings, I prefer the Trilogy Alarm Lock.
